Introduction to Chemistry

Chemistry is the scientific study of the materials that an object is made of, showing the elements that need to be combined to make any material. Students will study what matter is made of and how different types of matter interact. There are multiple sections of chemistry which include Bio-chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Analytic Chemistry. Each of these subtopics can teach you about different things, with some even connecting to other fields of science, such as biology or physics.

In grade 8 Chemistry, you learn about the kinetic molecular theory, the structure of matter, basic atomic composition, subatomic particles, element families, and how the periodic table is organized. In grade 9 Chemistry, you learn more about electrons and atomic structure, how elements form and behave, and how to work with chemical equations using the periodic table. In grade 10 Chemistry, you learn about chemical reactions, acids and bases, reaction rates, energy transformations, and other concepts that prepare you for Chemistry 11 and 12.
